On the advice of my dear friend Peter, I had dinner at the Grey Rock Casino.  Dinner was great but the ribs were not as good as the ones Lise made for us 2 nights ago.  I won $62 on the slots!

Airisaig lighthouse

I went to the Mazda dealership at 7:30. Waiting outside for 8 when they open, the service manager came out to talk to me.  He had me in and out so quick!!  Sensor issue was fixed and oil change done.

So may of the museums, shops, etc haven’t opening for the season yet.

Rained most of the day.

Today I travelled out to my friends’ house in Alexandria to spend the night.  Another couple came from Hudson near Montreal to party with us!  Lise made a fantastic dinner and fun was had by all!!  I drank too much wine !!

There comes my lobster!!  June is lobster fishing month.

North of Riviere du-Loup across from the mouth of the Saguenay River which the Bagotville brats will remember.  I noticed that you can take a ferry from here.

And of course PEI MUSSELS!!

DAY 17 JUNE 9
STE HYACHINTHE QC TO EDMUNSTON NB
534 kms

Most popular area in PEI.  Amazing sand dunes

Seacow Head lighthouse.  You can see the bridge from 7 kms away.  Blown up best I can get.

Fishing villages are plentiful and so quaint.

It was a good thing I didn’t have far to go today.  Kind of hungover.  I tried to find boat locks on the St. Lawrence River with no luck.  I am sure I will find some on my way back.  I did come across lots of canals like below.  First glimpse of the St Lawrence River.  I have to admit I deleted some photos in error off my dashcam which is why there isn’t much to show today.  My bad!!  Tomorrow will be long, so off to bed early.

You can still take a ferry to Nova Scotia from Wood Islands

DAY 24 JUNE 16
Port Hood NS to North Sydney NS
Via Cabot Trail
327 kms

Most all the houses are here except for our street.  A brand new complex for assisted living was built in its place.

My very first lobster roll!  OMG was it delicious!!!!!  And the fries sure didn’t taste like back home YUMMY  I won’t want ours anymore LOL

First beach in NB
I had to go wading.

Actually wasn’t that cold!!

My school grades 3 – 5 all boarded up.

To Nova Scotia on the Confederation Bridge

And then there is the buoy tree

Yummy seafood for many days to come !!

On the road along the Bay of Fundy. Pouring rain.

All that is left of CFB Chatham (Miramichi).  My dad was posted here in 1962 to 1964.  My sister Elaine was born while we lived here.

Miramichi to bridge.

DAY 16 JUNE 8

Moose came up too quickly.  Hard to get a good pic while pulling off the road. She took off in a hurry when I stopped.

Cape George looks across to where I am spending

The bottle houses.  The first 2 are the church

The dirt gets redder when it is wet.

Exciting to get to Ottawa!  Not everyone is here.  Still on winter vacations but I will be back in July to see them.  Danny was here and it was great to see him!   Haven’t seen my friends here since 2012.

House

DAY 21 JUNE 13
PEI – EAST AND CENTRAL
396 kms

Today was long and rained most of the way.  Sometimes heavy.  After Quebec City, I opted to take Highway 132 along the St Lawrence River instead of the 4 lane highway.  It went through several small quaint towns.  Every town had a unique church.  Some of the houses along the river were huge mansions.
The traffic was unbelievable around Montreal and Quebec City so I avoided them.

Road gets very windy.  Lots of 30 km/hr sections.

View from my BnB.  There is an island just offshore. Done for today.

Ingonish beach.  Pretty rocky for a beach except at the water line.

DAY 23 JUNE 15
TRURO NS TO PORT HOOD NS
296 kms

Beautiful red dirt and soil on roads and in the farmers’ fields.

Today did not turn out as planned.  Only did about ½ the route.  Car trouble with the oil light coming on but the oil level is good.  Going to Mazda tomorrow to get them to check it out.  I was 100 kms from the hotel but managed to limp back except it took all day.

DAY 14 JUNE 6
IN OTTAWA
14 kms

Signs have gone from English only, to French and English, and now to English and Gaelic.  On Cape Breton they have a Gaelic immersion elementary school and a Gaelic College.

Beautiful sunny day yahoo!!  I left Truro and followed the north coast most of the way to the causeway which connects Cape Breton.  Then up the coast of Cape Breton to about where I will start the Cabot Trail tomorrow.

DAY 15 JUNE 7
OTTAWA TO ALEXANDRIA ON
136 kms

South Maitland world famous tidal bore location.  The wave comes in very quickly.  At low tide the river runs slowly towards the bay it is calm.
First 3 pics are before.

On the road today was a bit boring.  The road I selected to travel across NB to the coast was one of the worst roads ever.  140 kms of absolutely nothing but forest and the lane was washed out in sections.  I did see a moose though!!  And got to the Atlantic Ocean…..at least the Gulf of St Lawrence.

I thought he would be more colorful!

There are nice views of the ocean and fishing harbours.

First sight of the ocean.

Wave came in very quickly.  Not as high as I thought it would be.  We are standing about 50 feet above.

One of the 5 beaches in Port Hood.

DAY 13 JUNE 5
NORTH BAY TO OTTAWA
351 kms

On the PEI side.

The Bagotville brats.  Peter, Linda & Mike

Starting up the west coast of the island to the Cabot Trail.

Wonderful friends.  Peter and Jasmine,  Mike and Lise

Out with Danny.  Toooo many caesar’s! We have known each other for 50 + years.

The tide is in.  When it is out, you can walk on the ocean floor.  Hopefully I can arrange it when I’m on the other side of the bay July 3.
Pictures taken from the top of the lighthouse.

The causeway is in the distance.

Cape Breton here I come.

They turned all the airmen’s living quarters into a retirement centre.

Today was a really good day!  Starting from Bathurst to Miramichi was the same as the day before.  Not much to see.  From Miramichi to the PEI bridge was picturesque with numerous inlets from the ocean.  The bridge to PEI was cool.  13 kms long.

Basin Head Beach

Today I slept in and only went to my cousin’s place near the hotel.  Taking a rest !!
Cousin Trevor is a couple years younger than me.  I always visited my uncle every time I came here.  Sadly he has passed away.
